My Personal Diet … It ROCKS For Me!!!

BY BART SMITH, AUTHOR OF B.S. THE BOOK

All my life, I've maintained a pretty simple diet. For the past three years, I've narrowed down exactly what I eat for optimum health:

  • For breakfast, an apple, grapefruit, a banana, an orange or other fruit plus yogurt, oatmeal, egg whites, eggs or cereal. Check out Kellog's® SMART START®. Wow, if you're going to have cereal, you might as well get 100% of many of your vitamins and minerals. Right? Check out this brand's Nutritional Facts. It's the *BEST* I've ever seen. Add a small handful of dried cranberries or a sliced banana and yummy! And, I'll use vanilla almond milk. Never cow's milk. No bacon, ham or sausage links for me. I prefer meatless/veggie-based alternatives. Pancakes? Sure, if they're gluten-free. They're a "treat" every now and then. (Hey, I have a sweet tooth, not just for my honey … ) Protein shakes every now and then. Never coffee, only fresh (fruit or veggie) juice from my juicer and lots of water.
  • For lunch and dinner … "My Salads!" (3-5 times per week) Spinach leaves, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot slices, bits of parsley, cucumbers, egg whites, add a small handful of cranberries, red grapes sliced in half and a small handful of unsalted mixed nuts. Then, add chunks of grilled swordfish or ahi tuna hot off your George Forman Grilled and yummy! Eat this salad 3-5 times per week for 90 days, drink only water with your meal, no desserts afterward, workout and follow the rest of my diet and you can lose weight! It's amazing … this formula really works! CCheck out my salad recipe.
  • Other meals include fish 'n' steamed veggies (2-4 times per week) Grilled salmon, ahi tuna or other fish plus steamed veggies. Good stuff!
  • Side dishes might include black beans, brown rice, steamed veggies, corn on the cob, sliced (cubed) ‘n' sautéed potatoes, soups, salads, etc.
  • Turkey/Soy/Salmon burgers, soy ribblettes and tofu products (2-3 times per week). Soy/tofu products don't take 3 days to digest in the body like red meat. Yikes! And, the way I make my turkey, soy or salmon burgers or tofu dishes? Wow! You can't tell the difference! Add some mushrooms, a tomato, lettuce, onions, barbeque sauce, etc., and toast the bun. You can still get that "burger taste" while treating your body good! Soy products often contain fiber! Meat does not! So, they taste great; they're easy to digest and contain fiber too? Cool!
  • When I eat out, I love Japanese food (sushi and other healthy Japanese dishes); Vietnamese (tofu wrapped "non-fried" spring rolls, vermicelli with greens/carrot mix and chicken/tofu/seafood combo); Mexican (veggie, black bean 'n' rice burritos), Italian (I love seafood 'n' pasta combos). Never ever steak, pork chops, beef burgers or fast "junk" food; unless it's Mexican (veggie, black bean 'n' rice burritos), grilled chicken or Caesar salads and the like … on the run! I eat a variety of light, healthy, quasi-vegetarian-based and easy-to-digest foods when dining out.
  • What do I drink? Lots of water; all day long. I keep a 2.5 gallon jug of spring water in my fridge at all times. I also have one outside the fridge at room temperature. So, no matter, there's always water available within quick reach. Fresh juice from my juicer and alcohol in moderation. Sodas? Never. Diet (SCAM) sodas? Never ever! Water, water, water! I'm not a coffee drinker; green tea once in a while. I prefer glass and bottles any day. Sorry, no "can" do. I don't like cans. Only in a pinch if there's no alternative.
